Ethanol production | Ethanol fuel | Ethanol
ISMA (India Sugar & Bio-energy Manufacturers Association) has urged the government to allow the diversion of an additional 10-12 lakh tonnes of sugar towards ethanol production in the current season. This request comes amid reports of higher sugar output, with the government already capping sugar diversion for ethanol at 17 lakh tonnes for the 2023-24 season. Despite the earlier estimate of lower sugar production due to drought in Maharashtra and Karnataka, recent favorable weather conditions have prompted an upward revision in sugar production estimates for 2023-24 in major states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Karnataka. ISMA believes that sugar production this year could surpass earlier expectations, justifying the plea for additional sugar diversion for ethanol production. The association also emphasizes the efficiency and environmental benefits of supporting ethanol production from sugarcane over maize.
