Government’s green energy push: 556 plants under construction, including 129 CBG and 427 biogas plants

 

The Indian government's GOBARdhan initiative, focusing on converting organic waste into resources like biogas, has gained momentum. In the fiscal year 2023-24, 198 plants, including 12 CBG and 186 biogas, were established, with 556 more under construction (129 CBG, 427 biogas). Initiatives include carbon credit trading for CBG, excise duty exemption, and policy amendments to boost organic manure sales. The government aims for 5% mandatory CBG blending, extended synchronization schemes, and a unified registration portal for streamlined monitoring. The vision is to expand Biogas/CBG plants, raise awareness, and attract private sector investment.
