The Grain Ethanol Manufacturers Association (GEMA) has expressed concerns about severe shortages of broken rice and maize, impacting the grain-based ethanol industry. In a letter to Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi, GEMA President Dr. Chandra K. Jain highlighted factors such as monsoon failure, exports, and competition from other industries for the feedstock. Over the past six months, prices for broken rice and maize have significantly increased, and supplies remain limited. NAFED and NCCF are struggling to procure maize for ethanol plants due to high market prices, resulting in unfulfilled purchase orders and refunded advance payments.
